Erik Barrett, M.D.

Dr. Barrett is a medically licensed physician with specialty training in comprehensive eye care and ophthalmic surgery. He was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana and attended North Central High School. Dr. Barrett obtained his undergraduate degree from Indiana University where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Science in biology, a minor in Spanish, and a business certificate in 1996.

While at IU he was a four-year varsity letterman in Men's Tennis and a three-time academic All-American. In 1995, he won the prestigous Tichenor Award recognizing the top scholar-athlete at Indiana University. Dr. Barrett then moved to Indianapolis where he received his M.D. from Indiana University School of Medicine.

Following medical school, Dr. Barrett completed his one year internship at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. He then moved to Dallas, Texas where he completed his residency in comprehensive ophthalmology at the University of Texas/Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Barrett is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Indiana State Medical Association. He is certified on both the Wavelight Ex500 Excimer Laser and the Wavelight FS200 Femtosecond Laser.

Over the past 12 years, Dr. Barrett has provided care for over thirty thousand patients throughout central Indiana. He has performed over five thousand ophthalmic surgeries since graduating from medical school in 2000. His specialty areas of expertise include Femtosecond LASIK, PRK, deluxe cataract surgery and eyelid surgery. Dr. Barrett also has an appointment as a Volunteer Clinical Lecturer in Ophthalmology at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Dr. Barrett currently lives in Carmel, Indiana with his wife Hilary and their two daughters, Emma and Libby. In his spare time he enjoys golfing, running, reading and coaching his two daughters in their various sports.


Bret Lehman, O.D.

Dr. Bret Lehman is a licensed optometrist who is passionate about eye care. He received his undergraduate degree from Miami University in Oxford Ohio, where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and a minor in Neuroscience. In a combined dual degree program, he graduated magna cum laude from The Ohio State University College of Optometry earning both a Doctorate of Optometry and a Master’s in Vision Science. During optometry school, he earned the Beta Sigma Kappa Certificate of Achievement for four years of academic excellence and was awarded the Julius F. Neumueller Award in Optics for his research and publication in the field of optics. He is residency trained in Primary Care Optometry with an emphasis in advanced contact lens fitting through Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry and in affiliation with University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Lehman participated in two medical mission trips to Ecuador and to the Dominican Republic providing medical, dental, and optometric care to under-served populations. He is actively engaged in the community through school vision screenings and is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.

Prior to joining Barrett Eye Care, Dr. Lehman served 7 years in the US Army as an active duty Army Optometrist earning the rank of Major. He voluntarily separated from active service to establish home in Indianapolis. He will maintain his military service through the Air National Guard. He resides in Carmel with his wife and their three children. Dr. Lehman is an outdoor enthusiast and in his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, running, biking, skiing, and local church activities. He is looking forward to providing you with exceptional service and becoming your partner in vision health. Dr. Lehman is available to see patients in both the Carmel and Fishers offices on Thursdays.
