Barrett Eye Care was founded by Dr. Erik Barrett. Our first office was opened in Fishers, Indiana on Allisonville Road on November 1st, 2004. In 2011, we acquired another practice from Dr. Elliott Yolles. That practice is currently located in Carmel, Indiana on Meridian Street, just south of 116th street. Proudly serving Fishers, Carmel, Noblesville, Indianapolis, Zionsville and Westfield, we are a full service ophthalmology clinic dedicated to providing our family, friends and neighbors with the highest standard of eye care available anywhere.

Doctor of Ophthalmology
Dr. Barrett, M.D.
Dr. Barrett is a medically licensed physician with specialty training in comprehensive eye care and ophthalmic surgery. He was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana and attended North Central High School. Dr. Barrett obtained his undergraduate degree from Indiana University where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Science in biology, a minor in Spanish, and a business certificate in 1996.
While at IU he was a four-year varsity letterman in Men’s Tennis and a three-time academic All-American. In 1995, he won the prestigous Tichenor Award recognizing the top scholar-athlete at Indiana University. Dr. Barrett then moved to Indianapolis where he received his M.D. from Indiana University School of Medicine.Following medical school, Dr. Barrett completed his one year internship at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. He then moved to Dallas, Texas where he completed his residency in comprehensive ophthalmology at the University of Texas/Southwestern Medical Center.
Dr. Barrett is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Indiana State Medical Association. He is certified on both the Wavelight Ex500 Excimer Laser and the Wavelight FS200 Femtosecond Laser. Over the past 12 years, Dr. Barrett has provided care for over thirty thousand patients throughout central Indiana. He has performed over eight thousand ophthalmic surgeries since graduating from medical school in 2000. His specialty areas of expertise include Femtosecond LASIK, PRK, deluxe cataract surgery and eyelid surgery. Dr. Barrett also has an appointment as a Volunteer Clinical Lecturer in Ophthalmology at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
Dr. Barrett currently lives in Carmel, Indiana with his wife Hilary and their two daughters, Emma and Libby. In his spare time he enjoys golfing, running, reading and coaching his two daughters in their various sports.
Doctor of Ophthalmology
Dr. Brumbaugh, M.D.
Dr. Brumbaugh has been in practice for over 30 years. He has recently merged his practice with Barrett Eye Care. You will find that their way of patient care is much in line with Dr. Brumbaugh’s. Graduating from Indiana University with a degree in Chemistry and Mathematics, he went on to IU’s Medical School and completed an internship in general surgery and residency in ophthalmology. Dr. Brumbaugh is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, as well as the American Medical Association. He is involved in state and local medical and ophthalmology societies and is a past president of the Indiana Academy of Ophthalmology.
Doctor of Optometry
Dr. Gonzales, O.D.
Dr. Courtney Gonzales a licensed Doctor of Optometry in the state of Indiana. She grew up in northwest Indiana and graduated with a degree in Biology from Ball State University. After undergrad, she attended the University of Missouri – St. Louis’ College of Optometry where she received her doctorate. She joined Barrett Eye Care in January 2019 after living in St. Louis and practicing over the last decade.
Dr. Gonzales is passionate about eye care and sees patients age six and up. Optometrists can diagnose and treat everything that general ophthalmologists do, the main difference is they do not perform surgery. Dr. Gonzales performs comprehensive eye care as well as manages ocular disease, removes foreign bodies, and is also available for emergent visits.
She is a member of the American Optometric Association and Indiana Optometric Association.
Dr. Gonzales lives in the Indianapolis area with her husband and their two boys. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, and anything crafty. She looks forward to providing you and your family with exceptional eye care!
